Intro German 11 -- Sabine Schinkenspeck!

Today we learned the definition of and the difference between the nominative and the accusative cases.

This is a very important concept that I'm hoping you understand. We took notes on it, did assignments on the board on it, and we did a worksheet on it.

We also watched the kapitel 3 video segment.

No homework was assigned.

Intro German 11 -- Kindergarten!

Today we learned about the German school system; we also practiced conjugating verbs; we also learned that the word Kindergarten is actually a German word that means "children-garden", seriously!

Students handed in questions 1-2 from chapter 4.
For homework, students must complete #3-4 from chapter 4.

Intro German 11 - Dummkopf und Schweinhund

Today we completed our chapter 3 unit test.
We also learned two classic German insults: der Schweinhund und der Dummkopf

We wrote intro notes for Kapitel 4.
Questions 1 and 2 from chapter 4 are due for next class.

I used the term False Cognates and explained how the word 'gift' is a false cognate: in English it means a present, but in German it means poison -- funny, eh?

Sorry for not keeping up on the blog -- the move to the new school has kept me hoppin' busy!

Intro German 11 -- Kapitel 2 test marks and marks update!

Ihr seid hammer! (You guys are wicked-great!).
Class average so far is 82% (12 A's out of 18 students).

Now the bad news. You've got to start working EVEN HARDER to keep these grades. The course material gets tougher and piles up pretty high . . . so get those high marks now . . . you might need them later to help boost your term grade.

Intro German 11 -Hammer!

Today students handed in #1-5 from last day (it was assigned homework). More than a couple of you didn't complete it, completely.
We listened to the Rammstein song "Du Hasst" as part of a lesson on the irregular verb haben. After warm invitation to have a mosh pit while the song played, no one obliged.
We ate swiss chocolate.
Bärbel started crying in class because she wasn't comfortable saying the word 'höre'-- Ha!
Students completed questions 6 and 7 from chapter 3.
Remember, Monday is a holiday and Tuesday's classes are blocks 2 and 4 AND they are only in the morning -- you'll have the afternoon off.
Next German class is Wednesday morning first thing. . . SO REVIEW YOUR GERMAN WORK!

Intro German 11 - Die Bart Die

I handed back homework from last day (Kap 2 8-14).
We corrected questions 18 together.
We learned how to answer the questions Was machst du?
We learned that Frieda should, from now on, be called Frau Friede Finkelburger (apparantly she's married).
Students handed in their map.
Several students were sick and cranky (which helped us learn the German word krank)
Finally, we learned something about Eva's dog. Er heißt Tanner und er hat drei beine.
Homework #20-24 from Kapitel 2.
Your chapter 2 test will be during the first half of Thursday's double block.
